The objective of this web site
is to increase and sustain agricultural productivity at the farming level across Jamaica. This will be
accomplished through improved dissemination and application of weather and climate information, using an
integrated and coordinated approach by the Meteorological Service of Jamaica.
This web site was established
out of the Caribbean Agro-Meteorological Initiative (C.A.M.I) programme, which was launched in February 2010
and the main objective is:
To train Meteorological,
Agricultural, CARDI and CIMH personnel’s in relevant aspects of Agro-meteorology.
However, the main purpose of
this web site is to assist the farming communities in Jamaica by providing them with vital weather
information. This will be done through a network of Meteorological, Agricultural and Research
Institutes, so as to improve farm management decisions.
This includes the preparation
and wide distribution of user-friendly weather and climate information, newsletters and mobile products.
These will promote a better understanding of the applications of weather and climate information.
